What Sets Me Apart—and How It Benefits You
My Commitment to Serving our Community |
I believe it is my calling to be able to serve as a Trustee for the Plano ISD Board of Trustees. Being an effective Trustee starts first by being effective at listening to all stakeholders and making the best decisions possible, looking through a lens of what best serves our students and families. In my role as Trustee, I have found that I am a "connector," like a Lego piece. I bring parents, business partners, city leaders, legislators, and community members together with the district.

Leadership |
My peers have elected me multiple times as Board President (including the past two years and from 2013–2016), as well as Vice President for five years. I also chaired the Superintendent Search Subcommittees in 2011 and 2015, working with a national search firm to successfully hire our district’s top leader. For the past seven legislative sessions, I have served on the Board Legislative Subcommittee, collaborating with our administration and community stakeholders to draft and advocate for district priorities at the state level.
Additionally, I am a proud graduate of Leadership Plano (Class 30) and Leadership TASB (Class of 2015), both of which provided valuable leadership training and strong networks to help me serve our district effectively. |
Legislative Experience |
My work with a legislator saved many Texas taxpayers from paying more tax!During the third special legislative session on July 12, 2023, I was reviewing HB2, a bill up for a vote the next day. I noticed that a key provision—the hold harmless protection for school bond tax rates—only applied to bonds sold before September 2022. However, our district (and many others) had sold bonds in November 2022, meaning we wouldn’t qualify for the protection. This would have resulted in a revenue shortfall, likely requiring an increase in the I&S tax rate to cover bond payments.
I immediately contacted a legislator on the Ways & Means Committee, and within a short time, the bill was updated to extend the eligibility date to September 2023. This correction ensured that many school districts statewide wouldn’t have to raise tax rates to cover their new bonds. See more here: Summary of Recent Testimony |
Financial Expertise |
I have more than 16 years of experience in public accounting and private industry, along with both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Accounting. School finance is complex, and I’m committed to helping our community understand it—especially since it drives much of our property taxes. I’ve worked with our board to promote “Taxparency,” a grassroots effort that empowers citizens to understand how their tax dollars are allocated and to advocate for improvements in school finance.
For the past ten years, I’ve served as chairman of the Board Audit Committee, where my background in public accounting has given me an advantage in communicating with auditors and overseeing the audit process. My expertise in approving budgets, setting tax rates (M&O and I&S), approving contracts, and ensuring accurate financial statements is a key asset for the board. Early in my tenure, I discovered an external error with bond refunding that could have significantly raised costs for the district--an example of how my audit and financial skills help safeguard taxpayer interests. |
Building Relationships |
I believe a strong connection between the community and the district’s administration is essential, and I work hard to foster those relationships. As liaison to our Cities and Chambers of Commerce, I’ve built partnerships with local leaders. As a graduate of Leadership TASB, I’ve also formed lasting bonds with trustees across Texas. I’m often called upon to share insights on our superintendent search and other district practices. By collaborating with peers statewide, we can exchange best practices and advocate together for public education.

Community Connectedness |
Over the last 25 years, I have devoted myself to our community through parent involvement in schools, church, and local organizations. My broad K–12 PISD experience began in 2001 at Mitchell Elementary and continued until my son’s graduation from Plano East Senior High in 2016. Serving in PTA and booster clubs—as President, Treasurer, chaperone, and event volunteer—gave me firsthand insight into enriching student, parent, and teacher experiences. I also stay informed on legislative issues by attending meetings with groups such as the North Texas Commission, Region 10 Education Service Center, and various local Chambers of Commerce.
Beyond my school-related service, I spent seven years on the Executive Board of the Circle Ten Council of Boy Scouts of America, earning the Silver Beaver award in 2019. For 15 years, I have been an active member of the Plano Rotary Club, serving in multiple board positions and currently as President-Elect for 2025–2026. |
Effective Communication
|
In June 2010, I joined the subcommittee reviewing Board Operating Procedures and successfully advocated for allowing public input on non-agenda items—aligning our district with most others in Texas. Although initially met with opposition, I helped collaborate on a procedure ultimately approved by a six-to-one vote. Our district’s stakeholders deserve a voice, and this measure supports that goal.
